What Ingredients Do I Need?
The Alcohol
The Vodka: You really need to make sure that you use a quality vodka for this recipe. A Martini is inherently vodka heavy, and grapefruit juice is a delicate flavor that will be overpowered by poor quality spirit. Luckily, Florida distilleries excel in making smooth Vodkas, so there are plenty to choose from.
Recommended Florida Vodka:
- Coast Handcrafted Vodka- Kozuba and Sons Distillery
- Old St. Pete Artisanal Vodka- St. Petersburg Distillery
- FloridaCane Vodka- St. Augustine Distillery
- Monkey In Paradise Vodka – Monkey In Paradise Distillery
- Touch One Vodka- Fat Dog Spirits

The Orange Liqueur: Any orange liqueur like Triple Sec or Cointreau will work in this recipe, but Florida has their own local version! In our Grapefruit Martini recipe we use this delicious local Florida orange liqueur from St. Petersburg distillery calledTippler’s.If you want to support local, then this is a great addition to your bar cart. FYI it also goes great in Margaritas!

The Mixers
Fresh Grapefruit Juice: Fresh Florida grapefruit will be easy to find at the store, as the state grows around 50% of the entire country’s grapefruit. For this recipe you need to use freshly squeezed juice, store bought will be sweetened which will make the drink too sweet. You can squeeze it with your hands, but this won’t yield as much juice. Not to mention it is incredibly messy! If you don’t want to make a mess, then we’d recommend buying a juicer. We use a simple hand juicer that is inexpensive and gets the job done. It works well for oranges and all other kinds of citrus too.
Recommended Citrus Juicer: DRIZOM Juicer
The Sweetener: You can use plain simple syrup, but to add some more complex grapefruit notes we use our homemade grapefruit simple syrup. Make some up and have it handy in the refrigerator to add to all your co*cktails. It goes particularly well in vodka, gin and tequila drinks.
The Garnish: Slide a wedge of grapefruit on the side of the glass. We then coat half of the rim in sugar by rubbing grapefruit in the edge of half the rim and then dipping in a plate of sugar. If you like sugar then you can coat the whole rim, we coat half as we like to drink out of the not sugared side. The sugared part is purely for Instagram.
What Equipment Should I Use?
The Glass:It’s called a Martini glass for a reason. This style of glass was specifically designed for chilled co*cktails that are served without ice. The long stem prevents your hand from warming up the liquid. Nothing says Friday happy hour like sipping from a martini glass.
Recommended martini glass:Duke’s Bar Martini Glass, Set of 2
Shaken or Stirred: As James bond tells us, a Martini should be “shaken, not stirred”. For any co*cktail recipes that contain citrus juice it is always best to shake them to ensure they are properly mixed, ice cold and refreshing. We love the beautifully designed shakers from Absolut Elyx Boutique. The patterned brass designs are stunning. You can get $15 off your first order by using this link.

Straight up or on the rocks: A martini should always be served straight up. Be sure to chill the glass first by filling with ice and topping with cold water. When you’re ready to serve, dump out the ice and strain your martini into an ice-cold glass.
We hope you enjoy our Grapefruit Martini recipe below, and as always drink local and drink responsibly. Cheers!

Instructions
- Step 1: Add vodka, grapefruit juice, orange liqueur and grapefruit simple syrup to a co*cktail shaker
- Step 2: Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds
- Step 3: Strain into a martini glass
- Step 4: Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and coat half of the rim with sugar (optional)
Notes
Chill the Glass: To make sure your glass is ice cold, fill your glass with ice and top up with cold water. Dump out when you're ready to strain your co*cktail into your glass and you'll be straining into an ice cold glass.
Sweet or tart: We make ours more on the tart end of the spectrum. If you prefer things sweeter then just add a dash more simple syrup until it is just right for you.
Simple Syrup: You can use plain simple syrup and it will work just fine, the grapefruit simple syrup just adds a more complex grapefruit note.
Note: This recipe makes enough for a standard 8 oz martini glass. If you have a larger 10-12 oz martini glass then you will need to increase the measurements.
